Missing 10 Hours is a multi-ending social VR that exposes realities that many are familiar with but not many talk about. Two people will experience the VR piece together, one exploring the story while the other one outside controlling it. It starts with a fun cocktail experience and leads to the deeper understanding of the date rape drug usage and its dark side.
M10H VR is part of a documentary project Missing 10 Hours within Krisztina is going on a quest to investigate what happened to her 9 years ago, when she was being drugged by two strangers. With this multi-ending VR experience we rebuilt the whole scene where this horrifying life-changing event happened. In the VR two people are experiencing the night what Krisztina went through. To experience vulnerability and defenselessness, we do not just use the VR tools, but the control gradually goes from the person in the VR to the second user outside VR who decides how the story unfolds. As a hook of the experience we created a custom made cocktail glass. We placed a Vive Tracker on the bottom of a real glass which appears in the virtual world as well. After grabbing and having one sip from the cocktail the story stars to kick off.
GHB is a sneaky weapon, colorless, odorless. It is very difficult to find its traces as it leaves the body within hours, so a result, most of these cases stay unseen. Due to the lack of evidence, perpetrators don’t have to be afraid of being charged. Only a few drops is enough to knock you out, under its influence you become defenseless. And it has another dangerous side effect: it causes blackout.
Not knowing what happened can sometimes be worse than knowing because uncertainty contains all the horrible options.
M10H is a multi-ending interactive virtual reality experience for two people using emerging technologies. The first person is wearing an HTC Vive VR headset meanwhile the second person controls how the story unfolds through an application running on an iPad. This communication happens through OSC between TouchOSC and Unreal Engine 4.20.3.
As a hook of the experience we created a custom made cocktail glass. We placed an HTC Vive Tracker on the bottom of a real glass which appears in the virtual world as well. The tracker allows us to send real time data to UE4 about where the cocktail is located in the physical world. After grabbing and having one sip from the cocktail the story stars to kick off.
For the prototype we were using Quill the VR painting software, simple 3D models from Maya and some ready to use assets to build up our scenes in UE4. At the moment the animations that are seen in the prototype are coming from Mixamo but for the final version we are aiming to use motion capture data.
An additional idea to our final version is a VR package within we place all necessary extras (glass holder, HTC vive, special chair, cocktail glass, instruction guide ) into a custom made luggage. This invention would let us transport our project to multiple places i.e. ( prisons, psychology fairs, medical fairs, festivals ) at the same time.
